The first full-body scans at Charles de Gaulle airport
by Magdalena Rosova

French Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris is introducing a brand new experimental full-body scanner for passengers flying from Paris to the United States. An experimental scanner will have its premiere on Monday in Paris and will check passengers flying from Charles de Gaulle airport to U.S. Impulse for developing the new scanner was the foiled Christmas Day bomb attempt on a jet aiming to United States. On December 25 last year Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab smuggled a bomb in a Northwest Airlines plane flying from Amesterdam to Detroit and tired to blow up the jet with 289 people aboard. Fortunately, his attempt was foiled. Abdulmutallab admitted that he was trai! ned by al Qaeda group based in Yemen known also as Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Qaeda later claimed responsibility for the bomb attempt. Abdulmutallab is currently arrested and awaiting trial in the United States. After the bomb attempt on Christmas United States asked foreign airports to provide higher security and use greater precautions before passengers get in the planes heading to the United States. The French Charles de Gaulle airport was the first one which voluntarily introduced new safety scanners. All passengers traveling to U.S. are expected to go through the new scanner. The scanner will reveal all personal details, including piercing and breast enhancement. Many people are against the scanner as it literally stripes you naked, they think the scanner violate your intimacy and personal rights. But the French national commission for civil liberties has set up few rules to reassure passengers your face and intimate body parts can be blur. The securit! y agent controlling the scan should not interact with the pass! engers a nd images should only be stored for limited amount of time. It is also possible to refuse the body scan and be searched instead.
