The number which can be easily rubbed out
by Barbora Misakova
Every single day, waking up, brushing your teeth, putting in a hurry some clothes on and running on the bus. Do you recognize this situation? Well maybe not, but for me it is already some kind of routine. Yes – this is a life we are living, at least the most of us. This is the life full of work and money making. What's wrong about it? Nothing actually, unless we are able to stop. Unless we are blindly working for nothing, just to earn some little money. Every day sweating at work, sitting behind the computer, answering telephones which hare ringing constantly and what is it all for? For money. For some numbers written on our bank account. And all what these numbers can give us back are just few moments with family somewhere in Italy, few hours spent in shopping mall or just few bottles of wine. I think I won't be wrong if I say that we all know how hardly they are earned but how easily they can be spent. So how must it be, after months of hard work, when all our money are gone? In few minutes?Imagine that one day, when you are back from work, resting in front of the television and thinking how much did you earned today, your personal banker is calling you. “Hmm...Mr. ...ehm....we have some problems.” In a few minutes you will find out that some hackers got into the system of your bank, and have a PIN to your bank account. Yes exactly – to that bank account where you were saving all your money for family summer holiday, for new car or just winter ski trip you have planned for this Christmas. How would you feel? Angry? Desperate? Both? I would say you would feel the same, what now feel about 5.700 customers of Citibank. The whole situation is a bit complicated because there is still a question how did the hackers infiltrate the system and get to these private and protected information. But one thing is assured – they have spent few hours of incredible uncertainty, just because of the possibility there is someone who could easily rub out that beautiful number from their bank account.
