Nine suicides in five months in a Chinese factory
by Zivka Deleva

Believe it or not, what is an employer ready to do to protect its business! Apple’s manufacturer in China has ordered its workers to sign an agreement that they are not going to kill themselves and that they are going to accept the entrance into a psychiatric institution if they show “abnormal mental and physical state for the protection of themselves and the others”. No matter how crazy this sounds to you (to me, as well), but it seems like this measure has been necessary. In a short time, a lot of workers have convicted suicides at the plant in southern China. In only less than half a year, nine people have killed themselves at the Shenzhen factory. The ! last example was the one of a young boy, 19 year old. Another measure that should decrease the number of the suicides is the nets that are hung around buildings. One must pose the question, what is the concise problem with these people, what provokes them to do the act that I wouldn’t even call it a last hope. One thing is for sure, China workers are one of the worst treated in the world. Employees complain the most about the long working hours, low payment, severe management and big norms that push them to the limits of the endurance. People that work hard to improve labor’s conditions are even calling for a boycott of the Apple’s products, like iPhone, and especially, the international promotion of the newest product iPad. "The atmosphere inside our workplaces is so tight and depressing that we're not allowed to speak to each other for 12 hours or you'll be reproached by your supervisors. I feel like I have an empty life and work like a machine " ! 211; stated for South China Morning Post a 21-year old employe! e. And f or those conditions she gets 300 $ pay. My oh my, this Planet has a lot of luggage and human stupidity to stands up with!

Times Square bombing suspect
by Claudia Sonea

Could a whole country be tagged as being paranoid or just its representatives? After beating around the bush for almost a week, the US Attorney General final uttered what the US government wanted: the Pakistani Taliban is responsible for the last week’s failed car bomb in New York's Times Square. It doesn’t even matter that in the official statement the predominant adverb was the hypothetical “probably” that contrasted with the certitude verb “know”. The US investigators stated that they are developing evidence that Taliban staged the attack. First of all, they should find out evi! dence, not develop proofs out of nothing which sounds more like fabricating evidence. Then, if they know the Taliban helped with the attack, why are they unsure whether they financed it or directed it. The suspect arrested on Monday, Faisal Shahzad, the son of a Pakistani air force officer, was more of a lone wolf without any direct link to Pakistan, as they very well confessed, so why would they jump to the conclusion that Taliban requested him to do anything? Finally, the biggest question that remains, is why would the Pakistani Taliban deny involvement, when they should have been the first one denouncing the attack? All the questions are just rhetorical as no one will ever bother to find an answer to them. As Clinton declared, there will be severe sanctions if the link between Faisal and Taliban is proved to be true. The link has not been proved yet, but the United States is already pressuring Pakistan to begin a military offensive in North! Waziristan that is supposedly the stronghold of Al-Qaeda and ! the Paki stani Taliban. Most probably, all immigrants from Pakistan will have to fulfil tougher conditions to enter US and even tougher if they want to get US citizenship.

Security laps could cost criminal walk free
by Zivka Deleva

Is it possible that someone has underestimated people’s lives when allowed a dangerous man to walk through an airport free, and more to that, to board a plane to Dubai? And don’t forget, we are talking about the same man that two days has put a bomb plot on a car in the heart of New York, on Times Square. The officials didn’t warn all the airlines to check on the name of the Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad. It is good that the federal authorities had already traced him, and maybe because of that and in the use of the investigation didn’t want to create panic. So, before he made his step to the Mideast jetliner of Emirates plane that headed to Dubai! , the police forces caught him. Now the government sent an appeal to all the airlines in the future to be more aware of the dangerous consequences of not noticing the no-fly list, in the purpose of better fight against terrorism. There is no excuse for this kind of attitude. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the officials have allowed the Transportation Security Administration to inform some of the airlines, but unfortunately they forgot to do them with the Emirates. Is there a possibility that this has been done on purpose? Who would know! After the September 11 attacks, there has been a decision that Customs and Border Protection of the airlines must have lists with “wanted“ passengers. "You don't have to have a silver-bullet strategy," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said. "So the system is set up so that a series of checks are provided that prevented this person from flying." This time US authorities were lucky. Now, let’s hope th! at they are not going to repeat the same mistake soon.

From amateurish device terroristic attack?
by Barbora Misakova

Soon even the blowing nose in the public will be considered as terrorism. I know, poor joke, but what to say about the White House statement that labeled failed car bomb in Times Square as an act of terrorism? It is fact that someone prepared something what resembled a bomb, and maybe he really wanted to hurt someone, but marking this (fortunately unsuccessful) incident as terroristic attack seems to me overblown. Washington Post reported on Monday that car bomb was probably coordinated by several people that have international ties. According to Gibbs’ words: “anybody that has the type of material that they had in a car in Times Square, I would say that that wa! s intended to terrorize, absolutely. And I would say that whoever did that would be categorized as a terrorist, yes.” What is strange about this case the most? The fact that while yesterday it was just amateurish device that failed to explode, today it is terroristic attempt that could have set off a deadly fireball. Even though New York police already interviewed the owner of the vehicle and scrutinized more video tapes, they still have no clue who was that thin, white man. So the investigation still tries to identify him. As U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder promised responsible people will be arrested, he has to solve problem connected with identity of the would-be bomber which still eludes investigators. Hold still claims: “We have made really substantial progress. We have some good leads. We are following a number of other leads as well.”
