Ja - dies ist das Leben, das wir führen, zumindest die meisten von uns. Dies ist das Leben erfüllt von Arbeit und Geldauftreiben. Was ist schlecht daran? Eigentlich nichts, solange wir fähig sind, aufzuhalten. Wir arbeiten blind für nichts, nur um ein bisschen Geld zu verdienen. Jeden Tag schwitzt man in der Arbeit, sitzt am Computer, beantwortet Telephonanrufe und die Telephone läuten ständig. Und wofür tut man das? Fürs Geld. Für irgendwelche Zahlen, die auf unserem Bankkonto aufgeschrieben sind. Und alles, was uns diese Zahlen zurückgeben können, sind einige Augenblicke mit der Familie irgendwo in Italien, ein paar Stunden in einem Einkaufszentrum oder nur ein paar Flaschen Wein. Ich glaube, ich kann nicht daneben sein, wenn ich sage, dass wir alle wissen, dass sie schwer verdient, aber leicht ausgegebn werden. Wie muss es also sein, wenn nach Monaten harter Arbeit das ganze Geld weg ist? Innerhalb von wenigen Minuten?

Stellen Sie sich einen Tag vor, wenn sie von der Arbeit nach Hause gekommen sind, Sie ruhen sich vor dem Fernseher aus und überlegen, wieviel Sie heute verdient haben, wenn sie plötzlich ihr persönlicher Bankier anruft. "Hmm...Herr XY...ehm...wir haben einige Probleme." In wenigen Minuten erfahren sie, dass irgendwelche Hacker in das System ihrer Bank durchdrungen sind und das PIN Ihres Bankkontos gewonnen haben. Ja genau - des Bankkontos, wo Sie das ganze Geld für Familienurlaub, für ein neues Auto oder für einen Schiausflug im Winter, den Sie für die Weihnachten geplant hatten, gespeichert haben. Wie würden Sie sich fühlen? Wütend? Verzweifelt? Oder beides? Ich würde sagen, Sie würden sich gleich fühlen, wie sich nun ungefähr 5700 Kunden der Citibank fühlen. Die ganze Situation ist ein bisschen kompliziert, da noch immer Fragen auftauchen, wie die Hacker ins System gelangen und diese privaten und geschützten Informationen gewinnen hätten können. Eine Sache ist aber sicher - sie erlebten ein paar Stunden unglaublicher Ungewissheit, nur weil es die Möglichkeit gab, dass es jemanden gibt, der leicht ihre schöne Zahlen auf ihren Bankkontos ausradieren hätte können.

Každý jeden deň zvoní ráno budík. Namiesto zaklapnutia vstanete, rýchlo si umyjete zuby, nahádžete na seba nejaké oblečenie a utekáte na autobus. Poznáte to? No možno ani nie, ale pre mňa sa stala podobná situácia už rutinou. Áno – toto je život, ktorý žijeme, teda aspoň väčšina z nás. Toto je život plný práce a zarábania peňazí. “Čo je na tom zlého?” pýtate sa? No v podstate nič, pokiaľ nevieme, kedy prestať. Pokiaľ len slepo makáme pre nič, len aby sme zarobili pár drobných. Každý deň sa potíme v kancelárii, sedíme za počítačom, zadávame do neho nezmyselné čísla, zdvíhame telefóny, ktoré ako keby nevedeli prestať zvoniť, a prečo to všetko? Nuž, pre peniaze. Pre jedno číslo zapísané na našom bankovom účte. A všetko čo nám toto číslo môže poskytnúť je len pár chvíľ s rodinou niekde v Taliansku, pár hodín strávených v nákupnom centre alebo pár fliaš vína. Myslím, že budem mať pravdu ak poviem, že my všetci, čo peniaze zarábame vieme dobre, ako ťažko sa zarábajú, no tiež ako ľahko sa míňajú. Takže, aké to musí byť, po toľkých mesiacoch driny, zrazu zistiť, že všetky vaše peniaze sú preč? Len tak!?

Predstavte si, že jedného pekného dňa, keď ste sa vrátili z práce domov a len tak si sedíte pred televízorom a rozmýšľate, koľko ste dnes zarobili, vám volá bankový úradník: “Hmm...pán...ehm...máme problém.” V priebehu niekoľkých minút sa dozviete, že nejakí hekeri sa dostali do bezpečnostného systému vašej banky a získali PIN k vášmu účtu. Áno – presne k tomu účtu, kde si už pol roka šporíte na rodinnú letnú dovolenku, k tomu istému účtu, kde si odkladáte peniaze na nové auto a áno, aj k tomu účtu, kde máte peniaze na tú zimnú lyžovačku, ktorú ste si plánovali na tohtoročné Vianoce. Ako by ste sa cítili? Nahnevaný? Zúfalý? Oboje? Myslím, že by ste sa cítili rovnako, ako 5.700 zákazníkov Citibanky, ktorým sa táto vec v skutočnosti stala. Celá situácia je skomplikovaná najmä skutočnosťou, že nikto presne nevie, ako sa títo hekeri dokázali infiltrovať do systému, a tak sa dostať k súkromných a chráneným informáciám. Napriek viacerým otázkam je jedna vec istá – títo klienti zažili hodiny neskutočnej neistoty, len kvôli faktu, že existuje niekto, kto môže reálne a pritom tak jednoducho vygumovať toto ich nádherné číslo pestované na ich bankovom účte.

TracFone Wireless or TracFone is a mobile phone provider, subsidiary of America Movil the largest Latin American mobile network operator; that provides prepaid mobile phone service in the United States, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. TracFone is currently the sixth-largest mobile network operator and the largest mobile virtual network operator in the U.S. market with 9.895 million customers (as of March 2008).
TracFone Wireless is attempting to stop cell phone traffickers from purchasing low-cost phones and tweaking the software to make them work on any cell network globally. This practice is causing the company to lose millions of dollars. These phones are usually sold for a discount because TracFone subsidizes the handsets anticipating that it will make money from customers when they purchase airtime for the phone.
TracFone Wireless settled a class-action suit alleging that it misled consumers by charging them at the roaming rate in their home calling area as well as refusing to extend prepaid service periods during repairs of defective handsets. The settlement goes to 12 million to 13 million TracFone customers and could reach $70 million.
TracFone's lawsuit against Thomas (the judgment, handed down on March 5 by U.S. Judge David C. Godbey of the Northern District of Texas, prohibits defendant James Ray Thomas and his co-conspirators from continuing to engage in the bulk purchase, sale, or unlocking of TracFone's wireless phones) is part of a nationwide effort to stop criminals across the country who steal the subsidies that TracFone provides to make its wireless phones affordable for legitimate customers. Perpetrators like Thomas purchase subsidized TracFone prepaid phones, hack out the software in the phones, and ship them outside the United States where they are resold as new to unsuspecting consumers in other countries for a substantial profit.
TracFone has filed 28 lawsuits against more than 80 defendants in federal courts throughout the country as part of a concerted effort to stamp out this fraud, and to protect TracFone's customers and shareholders, as well as wireless consumers generally, from the effects of this misconduct. The judgment against Thomas is the 12th victory for TracFone in these cases.

Súdny spor TracFonu s Thomasom- súd zasadal 5. mája v U. S. , sudca David C.
